Attendant Care Program Fact Sheet
What Is The Attendant Care Program?
A statewide program that provides financial reimbursement to supplement individuals' costs of attendant care. Attendant care services may include in-home assistance with personal care, chore services, and transportation.
Who Can Benefit from this Program?
Eligible adults age 18 to 64 with severe chronic or severe physical disabilities. Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- Be employed,
- Be actively seeking employment,
- Be enrolled in an institution of post secondary or higher education,
- Be a nursing facility resident who would be able to reside in the community if attendant care is provided, or
- Be at risk of nursing facility placement if not receiving attendant care services in the community.
Why is there an Attendant Care Program?
To empower individuals with disabilities to self-direct their own attendant care services. Program participants assume all employer responsibilities including hiring, training, supervising, paying, and firing their own attendants.
How does the Attendant Care Program Work?
The consumer is reimbursed a percentage of attendant care costs based on annual income, family size, and Program funding.
